25 mile bike ride on Wasatch Crest & Pipeline Trail

We went riding on the biggest trail we have accomplished yesterday and it was far from what we expected. Mainly because we went there with little knowledge of where the trail was and we took a few wrong turns.

I parked my car at the bottom of mill creak canyon and rode with Garrett up to guardsman's pass. When we got there there, we saw no sign of Wasatch crest trail so we decided to venture off and find out on our own. We started riding up a hill wondering if it was Puke Hill and got to the top of the mountain. From there we started going down a hill that was too steep to ride and very scary. We started to wonder if we were going the right way after seeing a pond at the bottom and no trail. We were a little winded at this point and decided to turn back. We started hiking back up with our bikes over our shoulders and it took us about a half hour to walk back up the trail.

When We reached the top, we decided we would call Mary and ask her to email us a GPS track of the trail so we could view it on our iPhone. After about 20 minutes of talking her through the steps, she emailed the file to me. I opened it up on my phone and it said trail incompatible! At that point we were there for about an hour and a half and I felt like just turning back. I turned to see where Garrett was and he had rode off to find the trail. When he came back he told me he found the trail.

We took off for the trail and started the 25 mile joy ride, and for the first half mile it was very fun, but then we reached the famous Puke Hill! I was still sore from hiking my bike up the hill so I automatically got off my bike and started hiking the hill. Once we reached the top, there was a small stretch of nice smooth downhill riding, followed by some rough riding with jagged rocks. We rode for about 6 miles and found a nice place to stop and eat our Subways that we had stored in our shnazzy back packs.

Oh and check out my new hair dew I found when I took off my helmet!

During the ride we found a steep trail that Garrett thought would be cool for him to film me riding so I tried it and got caught looking like the amateur biker I am. Check it out!

After our break, we finished the wasatch trail and started riding down the road at 30+ mph. We rode down to the starting of pipeline trail and decided we would barely have enough daylight to finish that trail too. We rode that trail in under an hour where our record used to be an hour and twenty minutes (that was stopping and taking pictures of course). The last mile or so of that trail was dark enough to where we couldn't see what the terrain was like and we hit a few surprise jumps at the ending.

That about completed our ride so we still had a 45 minute drive back up the to top to pick up Garrett's car. Overall, the ride was very very exhausting but well worth it. I think it would have been much better if we would have known the trail from the start, which we do now because we recorded it in my motionx app on my iPhone. I also got a nifty iPhone mount on my bike for our next ride. Check it out!

Well that is my story and now here is the map and stats. If anyone wants to ride this trail for there first time, email me and I will email you the .gpx to put on your GPS or .kmz to view in google earth!
